Hmm, dosing the children up with various medications had mixed results during the night. Tixylix dealt with Tamsin's cough very well, but Medised didn't completely do the trick for Isabelle and she was still wakeful and stuffy-nosed for quite a time. And someone forgot to set the Teasmade alarm properly, so we all overslept again!
Anyway, Tamsin decided she didn't feel well enough to go to Playschool, which is a good enough decider for me! Isabelle was still very snotty and clingy too, so I phoned around, cancelled work, cancelled playschool, cancelled meeting a friend to deliver my birthpool to her and cancelled the babysitter for Isabelle, and we all settled in at home for the morning. As usual, though, however ill my kids are during the night, they behave as if in the rudest of health during the day and refuse to take things quietly. Lots of bouncing, running, pretending and shouting ensued as normal. But while they bounced noisily on the bed, I cleaned the insides of some windows. This is not, however, another step towards domestic goddess-ness but just an attempt to be able to see out of windows that haven't been touched in far too long.
I normally hate playing 'pretending' games with Tamsin and cut them as short as possible, but then she suggested one which I loved! "Pretend you're the girl, and I'm the Mummy, and it's your bedtime," she said. Aha, time for me to get my revenge! "Mum", I shouted, every 2 minutes, "I need a drink/cuddle/nose wipe/toy/wee .....". She called my bluff, though, when I 'got out of bed' and went to her and said "I don't want to go to bed, can I stay with you?" "Yes," she said. "I'm never going to go to sleep again," I said. "Okay", she said! Right, so she doesn't know my script off-by-heart then!
Anyway, time to get down to some work. We went downstairs and, following our UK theme, drew and coloured a UK flag. Not wanting to overdo things though, after that I put on some music for a dancing break, lunch and a bit of CBeebies. After taking Isabelle out in the buggy and failing to get her to sleep, a quick car-ride did the trick and while she slept, Tamsin and I read through her newest Dora magazine, the February and March pages of "A Year at Maple Hill Farm" (Sonlight Pre-K book) and then Tamsin read me the first 6 Bob books. She did really well!
Isabelle woke, then we just did loads of playing, washing folding, dinner making and other misc stuff. We ended on a moral high note, though, by reading several stories from "The Children's Book of Virtues" (another Sonlight book) at bedtime. Hope they sink in and permeate her dreams!
