Catching up

Tamsin had a big day out with Grandpa today to go and see Thomas the Tank Engine at a local steam railway. The plan was that Bill and I would get to grips with the house mess .... Hmmmm

To start with, I got stuck in to the corner around my desk with was piled up with all sorts of crap. Bill took Isabelle and the dog out for a walk and Isabelle fell asleep. When he got back, a failure in communication between us ended up in an argument and a major meltdown on my part. Sobbed and sobbed about how I feel I am running flat out everyday to barely keep up, the house is falling into disarray around me, I have no organisation, I regularly fail to make decent meals (and I am a nutritionist!!) am late everywhere and lose and forget things all the time. I'm either spinning around in circles trying (and failing) to get stuff done or I'm collapsing in an exhausted heap. I'm irritable with the children and generally feel I am failing at everything.

Bill once again proved to have marvellously absorbent shoulders and a plan .... We may get somewhere. Watch this space. I continued sorting out *one small corner* of crap under my desk. How come Merry does so much when there's only a baby in the house?

In 'other news', it was great having a visit from my brother Martin who lives in the USA. We realised it was 4 years since we'd last met, 6 years since he was last here visiting me (for Benjamin's funeral...) and it must be donkeys years since we had the chance to chat as much as we did this week. It was good to have him here, but sad to see him go again.

yes, i know just how you feel. I feel totally snowed under and can't cope when teh house gets out of hand, which is most of hte time. I've come to the conclusion that we have too much STUFF and that if we could just ditch most of it and live more simply I would feel human again....

we get by by having some stuff which HAS to be done every day which keeps the house in a pretty much acceptable state (hoovering, all toys out of the lounge once kids asleep, washing up has to be done, dried and put away as we simply don't have room in the kitchen for it to pile up). We have lots of storage, which is actually quite intrusive and makes the house feel even smaller than it actually is but it is still preferable to piles of 'stuff'. Not that we don't have piles of stuff, cos we do ;-)

Then at least once a week I do a bit of a blitz on one of the rooms so over the month most rooms have had a grand tidy.

One thing that all our socialising in other people's houses has taught me is that while there are people with far tidier houses, there are also a lot of people with far less tidier. I don't judge them either way really unless the house is so disgusting that I would think twice before even accepting a cup of tea for fear of what might be growing in it! ;-)

If you are not organised (I am not really although I like planning to be!)then don't beat yourself up over it. You have plenty of reasons not to be - two small children, one still under a year, you work, you give your time to the nursery and you Home Educate. And you've not had a decent night's sleep in over a year. So don't give yourself a hard time and don't compare yourself to others :-)

Hope Bill's plan works out xxx
