Today's activity

Started with gardening first thing, as somebody was coming to help me weed the jungle, er... flowerbeds. Helped him for 45 mins and then left him to do some more on his own.

Came in and did some quick maths with Jade - quick-fire adding and subtracting questions with numbers to 10.

Then moved on to Story of the World - ancient Egyptians. Revised some of the chapter we did previously (over 2 weeks ago!) and then read 'Croco-Nile', a lovely picture book/poem about some Ancient Egyptian children.

Then food and she requested to watch the DK Eyewitness Human Body video while she ate.

Now she's getting changed for her afternoon at school.

Later this afternoon I go to see the Dr to discuss Selective Mutism with him - I've never brought it to his attention before and want to know what the options are for help outside of school.

Hope it went well at the Drs?

Yes, it did. I was afraid (from what I have heard elsewhere) that a referral to the Children's Mental Health service might take months or more, but apparently now there is a psychiatric nurse allocated to every GP practice, so we are being referred to him straightaway. He might deal with it himself or refer us on to someone else, but the GP said there are people around who can help with this sort of thing, so it's quite hopeful! At the very least, it means we are not dependent on getting help only through the school, so I can take that into the equation as to whether to take her out or not.

that's really good news Joanna. Lets hope he has lots of good ideas.
Day sounds lovely - well, morning!

Oh - pleased for you that it can/will be independent of school, at least that doesn't need to be a factor in any decisions now.
