Katy, you've got a lot to answer for. Made a batch yesterday and, erm, they're all gone.
Feeling rather sick about finances atm as I have had to find a childminder for Isabelle, and assumed I could claim on Tax Credits for 70% of the cost and now find I can't. Shit.
I did well at the charity shop today, with a few educational books (mostly 50-75p each) plus a cardigan for myself, then we've been to the library for more books and got a package from Bookstart with yet more books. So it's a good job I organised the HE bookshelf yesterday and put everything into subject order, so I know where to put them!

Why can't you claim on the tax credits? I'm confused, surely you can? Isn't that what they're there for?
Because we don't get Working Tax Credit, only Child Tax Credit. To claim childcare costs you have to be getting WTC. I didn't realise that.

re **** tax credits, if you are *poor* they are useful, if you are *rich* you don't need em, if you are average they let you fall miserably through teh cracks. it sucks. Can you both pull hte "work life balance" card and try to jiggle shifts to get round it?
